So, I’ve been messing around on some Fortune 500 websites over the last few days, when I came across Brunswick’s website.
I noticed the site index at the bottom. Here is a screenshot:

Glorious visibility! I can see everything that’s going on
Regardless of its positioning or size, there is something that really appeals to me about this site index.
With one simple glance, I get a great idea of the structure of the site and the pages contained within the various sections.
The index, through use of color and font variations, clearly displays my location within the Brunswick website at any given time.
Great job.

I agree. Fantastic and a rare occurence for the 500. The only thing that’s bugging me, though, is “contact” hanging down at the bottom.
Feel free to label me the knit-picky designer!

What is it with Fortune 500 websites? Seriously!
I agree with you, Contact does hang…I like your thoroughness!

From a design standpoint, I see why they chose to put Contact at the bottom.
There is only one page under the contact section, so there are no other pages to list to the side, which would the columns uneven if it were listed up higher.
Also, as you probably already noticed, it follows the same order as the main navigation. Repetition is a great way to get the mind to pick up on order and make things easier to navigate.
I am just astonished at how they were able to organize the site so efficiently that they could make their site map so small, yet concise.
